Research for my BCM 215 digital artefact (video explanation below) will involve a variety of academic sources looking into the popularity of particular games, the demographics they appeal to and the features that are crucial in making them appeal to certain audiences. An example of sources I will look to utilise is this article on Minecraft’s popularity, which delves into the core elements of the game and potential reasons for its success. It then looks further into the positive impacts it has, examples offered being the ability for kids to learn to work in a team through building exercises, as well as its relatively harmless nature and lack of psychological impact that games like Call of Duty and Grand Theft Auto are often criticised for having.
