As part of Game Media (BCM215) subject, I have been developing a digital artifact (DA) addressing throughout the Spring semester. Initially inspired by a video that show about ‘Why the movie adaptation is unsuccessful ‘, my project has pivoted around movie based on video game.

Concept

I focused on examining current problems of lecture attendance and regional campus learning-teaching environment from secondary sources to provide the background of my DA. I refer popular sources as video on YouTube, news and other sources. And I was drawn that the purpose of my DA is to provide a channel to research and discuss movies based on video games, especially it focuses on the development of that kind of movie in recent years. Thus, I selected video essay to convey the image of the game and film as same as. To show the video easily, YouTube is the best choice to upload and share videos.

Methodology

From the feedback on my pitch, my topic is ‘Movies based on video games, and it would divide three questions with three parts:

  1. Top 5 featured movie in recent years.
  2. What can bring video game movies into failure?
  3. Should movies continue to base on video games? (survey)

During my experiment, I have included the citation of my video to illustrate the relationship of some details between movies and video games that movie studios have included. People can compare them that put on the film excellent or cause disappointing reactions when the audience was watching movies as watching a trailer for a game.

Social utility

I believe that my DA informs and augments audiences’ knowledge about the development of video game movie in recent years. The project also gives insights into the movies adapted from games not successful. Presenting my DA in a collection of public videos on YouTube, I expect to make my DA accessible to a wider public.

Limitations & Conclusion

Some limitations of my DA lie in my lack of primary research. I should make research about movies should or not continue to base on video game. However, I cannot take the time to implement this content carefully. I have not been able to link the lecture attendance and have not yet applied my classmates’ comments to the project.

Overall, I have creatively presented my digital artefact by using video format and publish videos on today’s most popular social media platform – YouTube. My DA includes multiple elements of video game films. I am thankful for all the help and support people have provided me throughout my project’s process.
