If deceit, diamonds and threatening people with a brick is your thing, The Botch is a game worth playing. Packed neatly into an old VCR container and decked out in original artwork, this indie card game has no lack of charm. I found its simple art style paired the theme of criminals and detectives well with its slightly eighties comic book aesthetic.
It looks good, but does it play well? Once you get a grapple over the rules and have an understanding of all the item cards in the deck it’s not a bad game per say but it does have its flaws. At all times there are only as many item cards in the game as there are players. Some of these cards have actions, while some are passive and don’t do much. this was most likely a tactic implemented by the creator of the game to encourage bluffing…
