Microtransactions can be defined as an in-game currency or worth that can be converted from real life money or values in the exisiting world. My Digital Artefact focused in on the emergence of microtransactions in contemporary video games in the form of a blog series. I scaffolded this project with the analytical framework of looking at the consumer vs developer pros and cons in each blog episode. For example, In Call of Duty, I looked at how these embedded microtransactions changed the playing experience for players of all demographics as well as investigating how much financial gain developers, Treyarch and Activision made on these.
