let’s talk board games

For the past few weeks, I have been diving into the world of board games, and for the most part, I haven’t heard of or played these games before. I will be analysing one game in particular; Sheriff of Nottingham as it was a game I had never heard of and it was an experience that was interesting!

In regards to Callois’s categories, this game would fall under Agon as well as Alea, due to the competitiveness involved but it is based around taking chances within the game for each individual playing. This game would fall in the middle of padia and ludus, the game requires the individuals to be creative in how they choose to play but there is a set of rules they do need to follow in order to win the game (Nielson, 2008).
